The Mentor Group International

The Mentor Group International Ltd is a project coaching and consultant services company headquartered in Bangkok, Thailand since its inception in 2004 with offices in Singapore.

We operate as Coaches and Mentors, not as consultants; the difference is that the consultants are hired to do a project, and once they complete it they will leave. where we ensure that we coach the client’s team to be self-sustainable, meaning that after we coach them, we ensure that we leave a strong team that can apply the same practices for any new projects on their own.

The Mentor Group’s, working philosophy is to take ordinary project teams and their projects and raise them to world class standards, by building their capacity, competency and expertise in planning, implementing and leading projects.

We are well known for building capacity in our clients’ organizations and projects, by using their own Project Management methodologies, or enhancing it with proven international Project Management best practices.

We offer supplemental services to motivate , align,  and strengthen the project teams.through Change Management practices, Training and Team Building.

Michael Sypsomos

Michael Sypsomos


Michael is the founder and CEO of The Mentor Group and a prominent figure in the field of project management. Over his 40-year career, he has developed and implemented Project Management systems for various companies in many industries, including Energy, Banking, Education, and Construction.                 He has influenced organizations around the world to realize significant savings based on personnel, process, systems and other continuous improvements.

Prior to the Mentor Group, as an executive for Chevron Asia South, Michael was responsible for championing and coaching leadership behaviors as well as setting the standards and driving excellence in the effective use of company capital. In 2003, he coached the Unocal Thailand North Pailin Gas Development Project, one of the three finalists for the prestigious PMI Project of the Year award, helping him and Unocal gain international recognition.

Michael is heavily involved with the Thai community and among other social contributions he coached a non-profit project of national importance for the Thailand Department of Mineral Fuels.                                                                      In addition, he has worked closely with the Thai Ministry of Education, coaching executives and teachers, thus contributing to the improvement of the Thai education system. He has also been a lecturer of Project Management at the College of Management of Mahidol University in Thailand.

Mike is a certified PMP (Project Management Professional) by the Project Management Institute (PMI), a Licensed Master Neuro Linguistics Programming (NLP) Coach and an Executive Coach. He holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of South Alabama.



Vice President - Operations

Stephen has more than 30 years of experience, 15 of them in Asia and most of which in Thailand, working in Engineering, Project and Construction Management. Stephen specializes in coaching and training companies in developing PM systems and internal PM capability.

The programs and projects he has been involved with include refineries, gas/oil separation plants, pipelines, power plants (nuclear, coal, combined cycle gas turbine) and infrastructure.

He has held positions as program manager and project manager for many projects, one of which was valued at over USD1 Billion. He has a proven track record of delivering projects ahead of schedule and under budget.

Stephen is a certified PMP (Project Management Professional) by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and served as VP of Membership for the PMI Bangkok Chapter. He received his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Manhattan College and completed his Master’s studies in Structural Dynamics at North Carolina State University.

He is the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Thailand Correspondent and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) Thailand University Mentor chairman. Stephen has lectured both undergraduate and masters courses at AIT in Bangkok as well as Manhattan College in New York City.



Vice President – Project Systems

Sorawut possesses over 20 years of Project Management experience in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refining industries and has implemented project management systems while coaching and mentoring management and project teams.

Prior to The Mentor Group, initially with Unocal Thailand and subsequently Chevron Asia South, Sorawut built a solid reputation of coaching and being instrumental for the successful implementation of projects, ranging from upstream Oil & Gas to HR and Process Improvement to IT.

With The Mentor Group, he successfully supported the recovery of the Montara Project for PTTEP, a major Oil Development project, following a blowout incident in Australia, which overcame many challenges to achieve first oil. He is currently coaching PTT Maintenance and Engineering in establishing a successful PMO to assure that all of the projects in the organization are optimally managed and meet international standards.

A certified PMP (Project Management Professional) by the Project Management Institute (PMI), Sorawut graduated from King Mongkut Institute of Technology Ladkraband with a B.Sc. in Industrial Instrumentation Engineering.



VP – Organizational Development

Throughout his 35-year career, of which 25 years were spent supporting projects in the Asia Pacific Region, Michael has been heavily involved in the Oil & Gas and Telecommunication industries, making him a diverse contributor.

In the recent past, he consulted on projects as a Business Manager for Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production. He also coached SPRC project managers and executives in implementing the Chevron project management methodology. Currently, Michael is coaching PTTEP in utilizing their project management systems and facilitating processes for their major capital projects.

Michael is a certified PMP (Project Management Professional) through the Project Management Institute (PMI) since 2001. He is also certified in Chevron’s “Capital Stewardship Organizational Capability” program as well as a Project Consultant for the “Chevron Project Development and Execution Process”.

In addition, he is a certified Neuro Linguistics Programming Coach and has served on the board of directors for the PMI Bangkok Chapter, where he has held the position of president.
